About this grant
The Federal Senior Companion Program (SCP) was authorized under the Domestic Volunteer Service Act in 1973. By 1974, 18 model Senior Companion projects were funded. Under this program, providers can apply directly to AmeriCorps Senior for a federally funded grant to operate their programs. Historically, the Department on Aging has issued a one-time annual grant award to providers who received the AmeriCorps Senior grant to defray costs associated with a required match that is borne by the AmeriCorps Senior grant recipient.
